Sending and Requesting Payments on Venmo

On the Venmo app, you will find an icon with a square and a pencil at the top right of the screen. The image allows you to add friends that you want to pay or request payment from. Click on the options 'Pay' or 'request' to send or receive your payment.

You don't need to add money to your Venmo before paying a friend. You can use your Venmo balance. When friends send money to you, it is added to your Venmo balance. You can access the balance when you need to make payments. If your Venmo balance is less than the amount you want to transfer, you need to use an alternative method of payment. It is not possible to cover a transaction with more than one source.

When making payments on Venmo, check the bottom of your screen to see which method will be used. If there is a problem with your account, your payments may be delayed. The recipient may not receive the payment on time, causing funds to be frozen from your account. You may need to find an alternative mode of payment.

If Your Account is Temporarily Frozen

It is impossible to complete payments if your account is temporarily frozen. You will receive an email notification to let you know that your transaction failed. Log in to the Venmo recover website on your computer. Your account will stay frozen until the funds are paid.

Your bank payments may be frozen for various reasons. Even though Venmo may be unable to give you specifics, your bank should be able to provide you with the details. The most common reasons for failure include; having insufficient funds when making the transaction and going beyond the number of ACH transfers allowed for your account. Your account will be reinstated as soon as Venmo receives the funds.
