No Dial Tone

Not getting a dial tone can happen for several reasons, and it is a common issue that many people face. Try this to see if you can get your landline to work.

  • Check your phone jack and make sure it is plugged into the wall outlet all the way.
  • When you plug the phone plug into your modem, you have to push it all the way in until you feel it click so it stays tightly locked in.
  • Make sure the phone you are trying to connect to works properly. If you know someone with a landline, see if they will let you try plugging your phone in just to make sure it is not broken.
  • If you are using a cordless or digital phone, check to make sure it is plugged into the wall and that it is charged.

Check Your Phone Lights

Your phone lights will tell you a lot about the condition of your phone and what it is doing. To see what your phone is saying follow these steps:

All Your Phone's Lights are Off

If all of your phone's lights are off, there are several things it could mean. You might have a dead battery, or the battery could be broken, the unit is not plugged into the wall, or there is no battery present. Check the wall outlet that your phone is plugged into, to make sure it works, and try charging up the battery. If this doesn't do the trick, you may need to replace the battery.

Flashing Lights

Electronics have been known to pick up interferences from other electronic appliances. This may be the case with your house phone as well, especially if your phone lights are continuing to flash off and on. Try plugging your phone into another outlet to see if that doesn't fix the problem.

TEL Lights Flashing Only

Your TEL lights will flash continuously if your modem believes someone is using your phone. Check all your other phones to make sure they are hung up.

Resetting Your Modem

The biggest and best most common fix of all is restarting your device. The reason why this usually works is that after your device is in use for long periods of time, it loses some important drivers or the configurations change. When you restart the device, it starts everything up all over again at the default level so everything will work properly.

If your phone lost a signal and suddenly stopped working, try to do a fast modem reset. If you lost your connection, this will establish it and reconnect you to the internet. You will find the reset button in the back of your phone modem. It is a tiny hole that you will need to stick a paper clip or pinhead to reset. Just push it in once and then release it and the modem should reset and hopefully, your landline will be up and running.

If that still doesn't fix your problem, then click here to report the issue to MetroPCS.
